CFAA Projects to-dateCFAA both sponsors its own intergenerational projects within the community and tries to inspire and facilitate other community groups to do the same. The following are some of the initial events, developed and executed in the program’s first year.CFAA Kickoff EventCFAA had a kickoff event attended by more than 100 representatives of organizations and individuals across the age spectrum who were interested in uniting around this concept. Intergenerational Art Exhibit at the 2007 Brunswick Downtown Association’s Art Festival
Bowdoin Common Good DayOn September 10, 2007 Bowdoin undergrads (comprised of the women’s hockey team) along with one faculty member and family joined the Friends of Curtis Library and library staff for an afternoon spent cleaning the Curtis Memorial Library’s grounds outside and helping move furniture and books inside. Future CFAA ProjectsPen Pal ProjectTo be established between an older adult population and a group of children/youth. The Service Learning Classes at Brunswick High School will be contacting teachers at elementary schools to pen pal with older area residents who may be more isolated or in need of contact. Intergenerational Art Project (Continued/Expanded)Leadership for this project will be comprised of BHS Rick Wilson/Amber Castelin and the Service Learning Classes. Some work has already been done on this project. Rick Wilson already completed part of the poetry/photography project. On October 15 students from the High School went to Cathance River Preserve along with a number of residents from the Highlands/Greens to walk, write and take pictures. Educational Mentor/TutorsThe United Way of Mid Coast Maine and People Plus will recruit adults to engage youth at the Teen Center and possible other sites to discuss aspirations, education and their own experiences (career, education and training, etc). Multi Generational - Interactive Theatre ProductionThe purpose is to exhibit stereotypes and preconceptions from various age groups about other age groups. Actors of various ages could take on the roles of other age groups to walk in their shoes. The process should begin in late 2007 and end with a performance in 2008. |
