Mission Statement
approved 1998
The Harpswell Historical Society, founded in 1978, is a
non-profit organization dedicated to the care and preservation of
historical documents and artifacts belonging to the Town of Harpswell
and the identification, collection, preservation and display of other
historical materials given or loaned to the Society in order to promote
a better knowledge and understanding of Harpswell's people and
traditions. This goal is to be accomplished in the following ways:
1) Preservation of the town's existing records and
artifacts through accepted conservation practices and maintenance of the
Old Meeting House using town funds.
2) Expanding the collection through the addition of
papers and artifacts which promote and enhance the understanding of the
town specifically and the Casco Bay area generally.
3) Developing an educational program at the grade school
level in Harpswell history.
4) Providing access to these resources by creating and
maintaining indexes and displays and developing historical programs
relating to Harpswell's past.
5) Continued cooperation with the Harpswell Garden Club in the
development of The Harpswell Historic Park. |
